What can a first lesson cover?
Useful starting points include how to hold the paddle, make comfortable contact with the ball, serve, keep score and understand where to stand. You can also ask for guided points so you practise applying the basics in a game.
You do not have to master every shot in one session. Tell the coach what would make the lesson useful: understanding the score, feeling less lost when joining friends, or learning what to practise next. Ask which one or two skills to focus on afterward.
Private lesson or bring a friend?
A private session gives the coach time to focus on your starting point. If you want to learn with someone, ask about a shared session and explain both players’ experience. The coach can confirm whether the format, group size and available court time suit your goals.
For a larger group, use the group-coaching inquiry so the arrangement can be discussed before anyone assumes a place is booked.
Confirm the whole session, including the cost.
Before agreeing, check these details with your coach:
- The coach, date, start time and session length.
- The court and exact meeting point.
- The total price, including whether court hire and equipment cost extra.
- When payment is due and what happens if rain or a change of plans affects the lesson.
If you need a paddle, say so beforehand so equipment can be confirmed. Bring water and clothing and footwear suitable for moving on a sports court. Ask about any venue-specific requirements.
Sideout lists coaching venue options, but your court and time still need confirmation. Choosing a venue in an inquiry does not reserve it.
What should you tell the coach?
Send your preferred dates, number of players, preferred area, playing experience and preferred language. You do not need a player rating. Mention if you have played another racket sport or want to work toward a particular goal.
You can adapt this message:
Hi, I’d like a first pickleball lesson in Ho Chi Minh City. There are [number] of us, and we have [experience]. We’re available [dates and times], preferably around [area]. We’d like coaching in [language]. We [have paddles / need to ask about paddles]. Could you confirm the session length, coach, venue, total cost and what is included?
You can meet the coaches and mention a preference when you inquire. Sideout’s lessons are arranged around your experience, goals and confirmed coach and court availability. An inquiry starts that conversation; it is not a confirmed booking.
Visiting Saigon and looking for games too?
You can request coaching directly from Sideout even if you have already arranged your hotel and travel. Share your arrival and departure dates and where you are staying, so you can agree on a session you can comfortably reach.
For help exploring local play arrangements, Endchange is the separate travel partner to ask. Suitable games and other arrangements depend on availability; they are not automatically included in a lesson.
Ready to start? Send a lesson inquiry below with your dates and experience. We’ll discuss the session details before confirming a booking.
